Penn State Altoona to show works of Philadelphia sculptor

ALTOONA – The McLanahan Gallery of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts will feature work by Warren Holzman October 7 - November 28, 2010. A reception will be held from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, October 14 in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Center.

Holzman received his B.F.A., with a concentration in sculpture, from Kutztown University, PA, in 1994. He has created several public commissions in Philadelphia and has been in numerous exhibitions including "Over the Bridge and Crossroads: Determining the Authentic Visual Voice." He now teaches sculpture at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.

Holzman explores childlike and whimsy wonderment in his pieces. His goal is to connect the viewer to the memories of childhood and imagination. He uses scale and proportions to help a viewer see familiar objects in a different way. He uses metal to express the authentic feel of the material. Metal has been uses throughout history to make various objects. Holzman creates his pieces with the idea of found objects rather than just making forms of sculpture. His urge to create comes from the idea of wanting to entertain. Holzman uses his sense of humor and ideas of childhood to entertain the viewer.
